Airline Baggage Allowance. It makes me want to cry

We all know the dreaded baggage allowance limitations but the biggest frustration is that all Airlines have a different luggage allowance size, which seems to change every six months. It goes something like this:

Me: "What do you mean it's 1cm too long? Ryanair said it was fine"

Easyjet: "But we are not Ryanair, sir. That will be a £50 excess charge"

Me: "But my flight only cost £45"

Easyjet: "I am sorry sir, but those are the regulations"

Me: "Hang on. Has anybody got a chainsaw so I can carve 1cm off my backpack!"

So, to assist you good people in not having to make a request for a chainsaw at the airport, I have started to compile everything you need to know about baggage allowance restrictions.

Cabin Bags

Easyjet will allow you 1 cabin bag with no weight limit. When you are paying for your flight you can pay extra for Allocated Seating with extra legroom and you will be allowed a small carry on, under seat, hand bag, along with your cabin luggage. I tend to pay for this option. What you pay for this option can vary from £7.99 - £29.99, dependant on the seat that you choose.

Size Restriction Weight Restriction Fees Excess Fees
56 x 45 x 25cm N/A Free £37 - £47

45 x 36 x 20cm N/A £7.99 - £29.99 N/A

Checked Luggage

For your hold luggage, Easyjet will allow each individual to submit up to three bags. A family or friends can pool their luggage up to the maximum weight allowance.

L + W + H = Under 275cm Up to 23kg £9.49 - £37.49 Per Item See Below
L + W + H = Under 275cm From 23kg - 32kg N/A £12 per 3kg

Note: The fees above are Online fees if you are declaring Hold Baggage at the bag drop it will cost £40 per item and £50 per item at the boarding gate.

Now you can see why I try to travel as light as possible. I would need to re-mortgage my house just to take any excessive suitcases or bags. All I need is a small knapsack with one pair of underpants and one pair of socks.

I will be continuing this guide with further Airlines. Watch this space.

All the bags, backpacks and luggage in my store can be taken on-board as a cabin bag and can be purchased here - Travel Luggage and Backpacks along with any Travel Accessories you may need.
